All-silicon Copernicus Clock generates 528MHz clock signal with no external components
CMOS clock generator creates a stable high frequency clock signal with minimal power dissipation, remains operational over an extreme temperature range, and does not require external components.
Detroit, Mich. – June 23, 2005 – The Copernicus™ Clock from Mobius Microsystems, Inc. (www.mobiusmicro.com), a leader in all-silicon clock technology, has set a new industry standard by generating a stable 528MHz clock signal with no external components.
The Copernicus Clock’s all-silicon implementation offers reliable operation over a 265 degree temperature range, dissipates only 3.5mA of current from a 1.2V supply rail, and yields a measured RMS period jitter of less than 0.7 picoseconds. The Copernicus Clock is manufactured in generic submicron CMOS, and it does not require external components, special process steps, or exotic packaging.

The Copernicus Clock reduces clocking costs by eliminating external components and facilitates system power management with features such as low-latency start-up and frequency scaling. It is all-silicon, and it can be configured to generate multiple highly-accurate and low-jitter clock signals with frequencies ranging from kHz to GHz. The Copernicus Clock is available as a hard macro for licensing and integration into product applications including microprocessors, microcontrollers, data communication controllers, SoCs, ASICs and ASSPs, or it can be implemented as a stand-alone clock generator.
Utilizing a resonant LC (inductor-capacitor) reference and novel compensation techniques that can be integrated in nearly any standard CMOS process, the Copernicus Clock achieves higher total frequency accuracy than all other all-silicon clocks and many ceramic resonators across a broad operational range. However, unlike crystals and ceramic resonators, the all-silicon Copernicus Clock is suitable for harsh operating environments including high shock, vibration, and moisture conditions.
