Altera's Stratix and Cyclone FPGAs Chosen for EVS' Live-Production High-Definition Video
IBC2005, Amsterdam, Sept. 9, 2005-- Altera Corporation's (NASDAQ:ALTR) FPGAs are being used by EVS Broadcast Equipment to deliver the world's first live-production editing solutions for high-definition (HD) video broadcasting, the two companies announced today. Altera's leading-edge programmable broadcast solutions, combined with EVS' expertise in video storage and broadcast production networks, set the stage for EVS to lead the industry in live HD video production. Both Altera and EVS will be exhibiting at the International Broadcast Convention (IBC2005) this week.
EVS quickly developed its new HD LSM-XT video server by leveraging Altera's Stratix® FPGAs for high-performance and digital signal processing (DSP) capabilities and CycloneTM FPGAs for low cost. The HD LSM-XT video server brings the power and convenience of digital video server-based workflows to a wide variety of HD productions including news, sports, documentaries and digital cinema. Broadcast engineers can use the video server to edit video while recording is still in progress.
"Altera's high-performance Stratix FPGA series delivers live-production video compression and several other time-critical functions in our HD LSM-XT video server, enabling our customers to produce polished HD content quickly and efficiently," said Bernard Stas, product general manager at EVS. "Similarly, Altera's low-cost Cyclone FPGA series performs other processing and control functions, adding to the cost-effectiveness of our solution."
Stas continued, "The collaborative relationship we share with Altera guarantees our access to the latest programmable logic technology and ensures that our products will always be at the forefront of innovation."
"As the leader in live slow-motion technology, EVS is an ideal partner for showcasing industry-leading programmable broadcast solutions," said Todd Scott, senior director of Altera's digital consumer and broadcast business unit. "By relying on the performance and flexibility of Altera® programmable solutions, EVS rapidly developed a versatile architecture, delivering exciting sport video capabilities as well as a new range of general-purpose video servers for HD producers and broadcasters."
IBC2005 attendees can see Altera programmable solutions for the broadcast industry at booth number 10.420, and EVS solutions at booth number 8.380.
