Xilinx Announces New MultiChannel Video-Over-IP Solution
Programmable solution enables adoption of triple-play services with high performance advantages
LAS VEGAS, April 16, 2007 – At the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Conference today, Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX), the world’s leading programmable logic supplier, announced a new reference design for video-over-IP and IPTV applications. This reference design is a highly integrated and cost effective solution for designers in a wide variety of video based applications such as broadcast, video conferencing, CCTV surveillance, wired, and wireless IPTV applications. The solution supports multiple channels in and out, bridging between DVB-ASI and Ethernet IP packets, and forward error correction (FEC) using the ProMPEG Code of Practice 3 (CoP3) – for compressed transport streams and uncompressed SDI video sources. Additional flexibility is provided through a choice of memory and processor configurations to closely match technical requirements. Xilinx will demonstrate the solution at this week’s NAB, April 16-19, Booth # SU14609, South Hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
This new Xilinx reference design enables very high IP bandwidth support and greater flexibility in the overall system. A key differentiator of the Xilinx video-over-IP solution is that it does not rely on a processor for implementation. Register level command and control can be accomplished through an RS232 interface.
“Video–over-IP and triple-play services are set for huge growth. As with any emerging technology, flexibility is key to enable rapid adoption while retaining the ability to meet changing requirements” said Paolo Masini, senior manager of Broadcast Vertical Marketing at Xilinx. “The Xilinx high-performance, optimized video-over-IP FPGA solution allows broadcast equipment providers to implement IP-capable ports in their equipment with a fast time to market. With our expanding range of solutions for the broadcast market, we are solidifying the position of Xilinx FPGAs as the key component in many professional audio and video systems.”
Availability
A fully productized reference design will be available in the coming months. For additional details, contact a Xilinx sales representative or distributor.
