China's Institute of Computing Technology Licenses Industry-Standard MIPS Architectures
SUNNYVALE, Calif. - June 15, 2009 - MIPS Technologies, Inc. (NasdaqGS: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for home entertainment, communications, networking and portable multimedia markets, today announced that The Institute of Computing Technology (ICT) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has licensed the MIPS32® and MIPS64® architectures to further development and commercialization of its Loongson family of processors. In 2007, MIPS licensee STMicroelectronics chose the MIPS64® architecture to support ICT's Loongson processor R&D. Today's announcement marks the first direct license of the MIPS® architectures by ICT.
"We are very pleased to solidify our relationship with MIPS Technologies as we continue to drive technology innovation and adoption throughout China," said Li Guojie, director, ICT. "The industry-standard MIPS architectures will allow us to design chips for a host of highly secure and efficient devices for government applications. We also see vast potential for economical microprocessors that target the high-growth Linux-based netbook and consumer PC markets for individuals, schools and small businesses across our country."
"This is an exciting time for MIPS Technologies in China. Our presence and commitment continue to develop here as we add more design wins and assist in training design engineers and software developers on the MIPS architecture," said John Bourgoin, president and CEO, MIPS Technologies. "We are delighted to announce this alliance with ICT to further proliferate MIPS-Based technology throughout China, and look forward to working together to deliver cutting-edge products that meet the demands of this rapidly growing market."
