Spansion Licenses ARM Processor Technology to Power Embedded Systems for Automotive, Industrial and Consumer Applications
Strategic Partnership Provides Spansion with Energy-efficient Semiconductor IP Including ARM® Cortex®-M and Cortex-R Processor Cores
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Sept. 16, 2013 -- Spansion Inc. (NYSE: CODE), a global leader in Flash memory-based embedded systems solutions, today announced it has licensed a wide range of ARM processors for its current and future product lineup aimed at embedded applications in the automotive, industrial and consumer markets. Earlier this month, Spansion announced it was expanding its embedded electronics leadership with a broader product line featuring Flash memory, microcontrollers, analog, mixed signal and system-on-chip (SoC) solutions.
The ARM processors licensed by Spansion support all existing MCU products acquired from Fujitsu and create a foundation for future innovation incorporating Spansion's expertise in Flash memory-based embedded systems.
"This licensing agreement with ARM simply underscores Spansion's ongoing commitment to support the embedded design community with the innovative MCUs they rely upon," said Saied Tehrani, senior vice president and CTO of Spansion. "ARM's energy-efficient processor cores are well suited for Spansion's embedded market strategy, which is built around our collective expertise in Flash memory, microcontrollers and SoC solutions."
Specific ARM cores licensed by Spansion include the Cortex™-M0+, Cortex-M4, Cortex-M3, Cortex-R5, Cortex-R4, ARM9™ and ARM7™ processors.
