Silicon Image Reference Design Partnership with MediaTek Gains Additional MHL Smartphone Design Wins
Five New Smartphone Models Targeted for China and India Now Support MHL Based on MediaTek's MT6592 and MT6595 Octa-Core Mobile Platforms
SUNNYVALE, Calif.-- May 12, 2014 -- Silicon Image (NASDAQ: SIMG), a leading provider of multimedia connectivity solutions and services, today announced that its reference design partnership with MediaTek has resulted in five new design wins for MHL®-enabled smartphone models from various China and international brands. These new models are the result of Silicon Image's multi-year partnership with MediaTek, first announced at Mobile World Congress 2013 with the MT6589 quad-core smartphone SoC reference design using Silicon Image's SiI8338 MHL transmitter. More recently at Mobile World Congress 2014, the MT6592 and MT6595 octa-core smartphone reference designs with the SiI8348 MHL transmitter were announced. With Silicon Image's MHL transmitters featuring Media Data Tunneling (MDT) technology, device OEMs can deliver a premium smartphone experience that rivals today's PCs, gaming consoles, and media entertainment devices.
"MediaTek is a valued partner and we are pleased to see our ongoing relationship result in new MHL-enabled smartphone devices worldwide," said David Kuo, senior director, mobile product marketing at Silicon Image, Inc. "These latest MHL-enabled mobile devices enable global consumers to enjoy a more immersive experience by transforming smartphones into powerful productivity workstations, gaming consoles and home entertainment centers."
