MIPS Technologies Licenses 32-Bit Processor Cores to Zoran for Next-Generation Consumer Electronics Products
Zoran Transitions to MIPS® IP Cores for Future Product Development, Including Digital Camera, DVD and DTV Solutions
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Aug. 9, 2002 - MIPS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MIPS, MIPSB), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer and business applications, announced that Zoran Corp., a leading supplier of high-performance digital solutions-on-a-chip in the consumer electronics markets has taken a license for the high-performance, low-power MIPS32™ 4KE™ family of cores. The MIPS® cores give Zoran an industry-standard architecture on which to base its future product roadmap, including digital camera, digital TV and DVD solutions
"MIPS Technologies not only offers superior solutions, but also provides a proven and secure IP relationship, one that our customers can rely on," said Ram Ofir, vice president of engineering and general manager of Zoran's Advanced Technology Center in Israel, Zoran Microelectronics Ltd. "With this agreement, we now have access to the latest high-performance, low-power MIPS core family, as well as a standard architecture very well supported by an infrastructure of software, development tools and IP that will help ensure the success of our product roadmap going forward and that of our customers."
"We are delighted to welcome Zoran to the MIPS community," said Kevin Meyer, vice president of marketing at MIPS Technologies. "By using MIPS IP licensed directly from MIPS Technologies, Zoran protects its investment, and that of the MIPS community, by helping to ensure one, solid, standard MIPS architecture. Adoption of the MIPS cores also will allow Zoran to transition away from Lexra, Inc. based cores."
Zoran's initial 4KE-based development includes additions to its COACH (Camera On A Chip) digital camera and digital TV processors and, in future, its DVD product solutions.
