Kaben Research Developing a Delta-Sigma Modulator in TSMC 0.18um CMOS
Ottawa, ON – March 7, 2003 – Kaben Research Inc., a leading developer of mixed-signal, Intellectual Property (IP) blocks for Wireless, System-on-a-Chip (SoC) manufacturers announced today that they are developing a Delta-Sigma Modulator in TSMC 0.18um CMOS.
Delta-Sigma Modulators (DSM) are a core component in Delta-Sigma Fractional-N Frequency Synthesizers, one of the company's cornerstones. In a wireless system, a Delta-Sigma Fractional-N Frequency Synthesizer allows for the generation of any Radio Frequency (RF) signal from any available crystal reference frequency. The Kaben DSM is a suitable building block for synthesizers in many wireless communications standards such as: GSM, CDMA, Bluetooth, Satellite Receivers, Cable Modems, and WLAN 802.11a/b/g.
The TSMC foundry is a popular process for wireless SoC manufacturers and Kaben's development strategy includes products in 0.18mm CMOS technology. The DSM IP cell will be available for licensing to wireless SoC manufacturers.
Key to Kaben's IP licensing strategy is to supplement a fabless SoC manufacturer's in-house design expertise with proven high-performance products. SoC vendors can focus on their core technologies while relying on Kaben to supply frequency synthesizer components.
"This DSM is a fundamental building block in high-performance synthesizers ideal for many of the wireless standards." said Seste Dell'Aera, Kaben's VP of Sales & Marketing. "Developing in TSMC's popular 0.18mm CMOS process enables us to license synthesizers to many wireless semiconductor companies."
