Global UniChip Corp. Furnishes USB2.0 Total Solution
May 19, 2003 - System-On-Chip (SOC) design service company, Global UniChip Corp. (UniChip), and its partner, Myson Century, Inc. today announced technology collaboration for an integrated controller and physical layer (PHY) solution of USB2.0 applications. The highly integrated one-chip solution conforms to USB 2.0 standards and also has been silicon proven in TSMC 0.25um process. It can be used in a broad range of applications including external storage media, PC peripherals, digital cameras, memory cards and readers, PDA, MFP, MP3 player, etc.
The USB 2.0 PHY developed by Myson Century uses advanced 0.35um and 0.25um generic logic manufacturing process techniques; only few companies throughout the world have the technology to provide the IP core. The PHY IP, provided by Myson Century, Inc., has fulfilled the official approval criteria for the USB 2.0 Peripheral Device High Speed Test Certification issued by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF). For Myson Century, it is unquestionable that USB 2.0 will evolve into a series of products with great potential.
The USB 2.0 Device Controller (DC) IP, Medusa, is developed solely by UniChip. UniChip points out that Medusa is a highly configurable, easily integrated USB device controller that fully supports USB 1.1/2.0 specification and utilizes UTMI standard interface. To ensure the quality of Medusa and to speed up the development time of customers, Medusa follows RMM (Reuse Methodology Manual) specification and passes the functional qualification, making it suitable in all kinds of highly integrated embedded products.
UniChip focuses on providing SOC design and production services, and actively developing numerous IPs to shorten customers' SOC design cycle time. The USB 2.0 transceiver and Device Controller are new additions to the exiting USB 1.1 IPs in the UniChip's portfolio. These two IPs have been successfully integrated in many customers' designs. To ensure an easy start in system development, UniChip provides customers a full set of USB 2.0 development and testing kit, which includes evaluation board, testchip, technical documents, and application notes. Apart from a friendly user-interface, it also has self-diagnosis capability so that customers may develop software/firmware and hardware concurrently. Furthermore, USB OTG controller IP is also under-development and will be available at the end of year.
