Corrent Licenses MIPS32 4Kc Processor Core for High-Performance Network Security Appliances
MIPS® Architecture to be an Integral Component of Corrent’s Product Roadmap
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, February 22, 2005 – MIPS Technologies, Inc., (Nasdaq: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer and business applications, today announced that Corrent Corporation has licensed its high-performance 32-bit MIPS32® 4Kc™ processor core for use in future firewall and security appliances.
Corrent’s first use of the MIPS32 4Kc processor core will be in its newly updated SR200 security appliance, to be released in March. Designed for small- to medium-size businesses needing consistently high performance, and for organizations with multiple firewalls, the Corrent® SR200 is a high-performance and cost-effective firewall/VPN solution. Corrent’s implementation of the MIPS32 4Kc core in the security processor is expected to result in a 25% increase in VPN throughput for Corrent’s cryptographic library and functions for AES, Secure Hashing, RSA and Elliptic Curves Cryptography (ECC).
“Corrent’s proven technology provides both small and large enterprises with superb network security processing,” said Jack Browne, MIPS Technologies’ vice president of worldwide sales. “We’re delighted that Corrent’s adoption of the MIPS architecture will enhance current products and enable them to develop new, high-performance security appliances in an increasingly competitive environment.”
“Selecting the MIPS32 4Kc core was the right business decision for us to make as we focus on our future product roadmap,” said Mike McGowan, director of marketing, Corrent Corporation. “As we move forward, its performance, power and flexibility will assist us in continuing to design and develop feature-rich products that help our customers stay ahead of emerging security threats.”
