Trilinear Technologies Expands IP Core Portfolio With DisplayPort Transmitter and Receiver Link Controllers

New DisplayPort Controllers Include a Development System and Policy Maker

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. – January 3, 2011 – Imaging and display intellectual property (IP) provider, Trilinear Technologies, Inc., announced the addition of two new DisplayPort link controller cores to its product portfolio. The Trilinear VF-111T DisplayPort Transmitter core and VF-117R DisplayPort Receiver core support the Video Electronic Standards Association (VESA) DisplayPort 1.1a standard and are available for implementation in FPGA or ASIC devices. Both cores are currently implemented for evaluation on Xilinx Virtex5, Virtex6, and Spartan 6 FPGAs.

The new Trilinear family of DisplayPort link controllers supports data rates of 1.62Gbps or 2.7Gbps over 1, 2, or 4 separate differential pairs, providing over twice the bandwidth of DVI or HDMI connections. The link controllers are highly configurable and include full standards compliance, including support for high-bandwidth digital content protection (HDCP) 1.3 encryption as well as secondary channel data for audio streams.

In addition to the DisplayPort Intellectual Property cores, Trilinear Technologies has developed a DisplayPort compliant link policy maker for both the transmitter and receiver. “The link policy maker is a significant portion of any DisplayPort implementation”, said Todd Previte, Director of Software Engineering for Trilinear Technologies. “The Trilinear link policy maker is both DisplayPort compliant and interoperable with shipping products. This can help customers to bring products to market months ahead of the competition.”

The Trilinear DisplayPort cores ship with the Viper Development System and a complete Software Development Kit (SDK) featuring the DisplayPort-compliant Policy Maker. The development system includes a host processor and peripheral suite controlled via the TRIMON ROM monitor. TRIMON is a full-featured monitor with a robust API that offers driver level access to the onboard hardware. Customer applications can be developed, downloaded and tested from within the TRIMON interface, allowing for simultaneous hardware and software evaluation efforts.
